My Political Opinion (emphasis "My")

 My Opinion on Politics And Mine Alone

      I know that the elections are just a couple of days away.  I’m glad because I’m really tired of all the name-calling and the overblown rhetoric.  I have been turning it off and I’ve quit listening to it all.  Do you ever wonder what God really thinks about politics?  Does He really care?

      God cares about everything that affects our lives — including who our leaders will be and how our society will be governed.  That’s why He commanded us to pray for our government and its leaders.  Would He have told us to do this if He didn’t care about good government?  Of course not.

The Bible says, in 1 Timothy 2:1-4

1.  I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

2.  For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

3.  For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

4.  Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.”

      In our democracy, elections reveal the priorities of the majority of voters and grant to those elected, the authority to alter our lives by means of decisions about national security, the use of taxes, the health of the environment, the plight of the weakest among us, health care for the sickest among us, the size of the national debt, and the possibilities of war or peace in the international realm.

      Politics are important.  Some believe that a minister who never addresses political issues from a pulpit is too far removed from reality to preach the gospel effectively.  Personally, I labor never to engage in partisan politics when I’m preaching from the pulpit, but I also labor with equal intensity to let my opinions be known as a responsible Christian when it comes to the issues of politics and the ways of our world as it relates to the values of the gospel.

      As a Christian, and as a pastor, I want you to know exactly where I stand.  On the one side, it is reprehensible, to even think about voting for someone that upholds the killing of unborn babies … that would welcome same sex marriages as an alternative lifestyle … that would seek to limit our rights as a citizen by changing our constitution and padding the courts to fit their agenda … and promote the type of socialist government that would lead our great nation toward the brink of destruction.

      One the other hand, I cannot say with all honesty that I agree with everything the conservative side of politics stands for either.  After all, we are talking about those who use their political position for gain.  Yet, the overall majority of the core values that I believe in are represented within the conservative ranks of politics.  As you may have heard others say, I am not particularly voting for a specific man or woman to hold an office, as much as I am voting for a platform of moral and biblical values that best protects what I believe in.  It is in fact, and with no apology, the lesser of two evils.

      With that said, you may or may not agree with me.  You can vote however you wish to.  I cannot tell you how to vote.  All I can tell you is that your voice must be heard.  Go Vote.  Vote your moral and biblical values as they are best represented for you.  Whatever you do, don’t stay home and complain about it.  If you don’t vote, you don’t have a dog in the fight and what you’ll get is the scraps thrown out the back door to grovel over.

      Let us be continually in prayer to our Lord.
